The ABAA Book Fair in southern California - a new venue and a new look

The 45th California International Antiquarian Book Fair will be held Friday February 10th through Sunday the 12th at the Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena, California.  Exhibitors are members of the ABAA or ILAB.  This year’s event is being held in Pasadena for the first time.  One hundred and eighty-nine firms are signed up.  Fair hours are:

Friday             3:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Saturday        11:00 am to 7:00 pm

Sunday           11:00 am to 5:00 pm

Leading dealers, from around the world, come in to meet collectors and curators.  For acquirers this and other fairs provide an efficient way to understand who has what.  Interactions in the field anymore are mostly by email and telephone but face-to-face contact remains important, particularly for sophisticated collectors.

As in other years the fair includes seminars on book collecting on Saturday and “unearthing discoveries” on Sunday.

The ABAA also holds fairs in Boston and New York.  The principal ILAB fair is in London.

For over-night visitors there are nearby hotels.  The Burbank Airport is about 20 minutes away, LAX about 40 minutes.
