Lot 36007. The Whole Art of Book-Binding, 1824

Heritage Rare Book Auctions in Beverly Hills and Dallas is offering a broad selection of collectible works on paper on February 8th.  The emphasis is on collectible.  The sales will be conducted in two parts.  The first portion, lots 36001 to 36168, will be sold at 10:00 am PST at their Beverly Hills showroom and the second part, lots 36169 to 36685 sold beginning at 4:00 pm CST at their Dallas headquarters. 

A careful reading of the online catalogue is worth the while.

The Eucleia, Works by... [Salem: William Cook, 1861]. First bound edition of ten pamphlets bound into one volume. Twelvemo. Illustrated with woodcuts by the author. Period binding of cloth over boards with adhered patterned fabric laid over, with printed titles and decoration. Covers and extremities well-worn with abraded edges and moderate loss. Boards are warped, possibly due to dampstaining. Some soiling, light staining, and writing present.

Starting bid  $1,200.  Estimate $1,800 up

The Whole Art of Book-Binding, Containing Valuable Receipts for Sprinkling, Marbling, Colouring, &c. Richmond: Published by Peter Cottom, 1824. The first American edition, from the third London edition with considerable additions. Twelvemo. iv, [5]-60 pages. Large folding plate bound at back giving the list of prices of the New York Friendly Association Master Bookbinders. Lower portion of the plate missing but a copy of the same sheet from the Huntington Library has been photocopied.

Starting bid $1,250.  Estimate $2,500 up
