Efficient Book Auction Searches

A simple tool that makes auction contents visible.

A simple tool that makes auction contents visible.

By Bruce McKinney

Recently, without announcement, we added a new feature to the personal home pages of the more than 3,400 AE members. It is an Auction Keyword List and each member can develop a personal list of keywords, names or phrases to search upcoming auctions regularly. Once created, whenever a member signs in, they can select the [SEARCH] option under the Auction Keyword List on their personal AE home page and all terms are immediately matched against upcoming auctions. It is a fast effective way to stay on top of book auctions worldwide.

Free members have a single list of 10 while paid members have 3 lists of 10. If you are a signed up member sign-in and create a personal auction keyword search list and then run your first searches. When you come back your list will be ready to search again. Of course, if you want to change terms simply delete any item and replace it with a new one.

To stay on top of upcoming sales run your searches once or twice a week. Typically, in less than 10 minutes, you can read through every matched lot. For those with access to the AED every auction match has a link to "Also Search in the AED" to jump-start your research into items of potential interest.

Now you can spend your time evaluating rather than browsing. For the busy book dealer, collector and librarian it is an essential tool.
