An Audio Interview with an Exhibitor of Pop-Up Books

Here is a link to a podcast for those with an interest in a very specific type of book – pop-up books. These are three-dimensional books, the ones where you open them up and some elements "pop up" from the pages. They may be already famous books, or those featuring characters from famous books, or new ones designed especially for pop-up illustrations. Usually, pop-ups are found in children's books. They are magical for the young, and are usually found in books not too heavy on text. Still, there are many collectors who focus on pop-ups and they are not children, just young at heart.

The podcast is an interview with Matteo Faglia, a long-time publisher of children's books with a passion for pop-ups. He recently hosted an exhibition at the Bologna Children's Book Fair with Massimo Missiroli, whose collection of pop-ups was featured in the exhibition. Faglia plans to take the exhibition, which features works by notables such as Ernest Nister and Raphael Tuck and Sons, on the road.

The interview was conducted by Susan Raab, journalist, President of Raab Associates, and advisor to the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
