Arader Galleries announces their Winter Auction December 11th

Arader Galleries is excited to announce a wonderful Winter Auction on December 11th, 2021 including profoundly important icons of natural history and cartography such as beautiful examples of Audubon's Birds of America, a stunning collection of original watercolors, an excellent selection of Globes and rare maps, as well as both rare books and Americana.
The 163 lot sale begins with a curated selection of 33 aquatints from John James Audubon's Birds of America including some of the finest compositions he created such as, the Ruby-Throated Hummingbird (Lot 5), Barred Owl (Lot 11), Ivory-Billed Woodpecker (Lot 12), Canada Goose (Lot 21), and California Vulture (Lot 29).
Succeeding is a magnificent grouping of natural history artwork of flora and fauna including an excellent assemblage of Daniel Giraud Elliot's A Monograph of the Felidae or Family of Cats (Lots 39-46), Original watercolors by Samuel Howitt, Edward Lear & Prideaux John Selby; the best Bessa watercolor we have ever seen, as well as a stunning large scale painting by Frederick Waugh (Lots 48-85).
Next is a wide-ranging selection of rare books including; John Gould's only work devoted to American Birds, The Partridges of America (Lot 86), Magnus' History of Northern People and Customs (Lot 91), a magnificently colored composite atlas by De Wit (Lot 96), and Gardner's Photographic Sketchbook of the Civil War (Lot 97).
The auction then has a small, but wonderful grouping of Globes varying from a small terrestrial globe by Blaeu from 1602 to a large pair of terrestrial and celestial globes by Smith and Son from 1825 (Lots 98-107).
Finally the sale ends with a varied section of rare maps, views and Americana. Highlights include the finest 18th century drawing of Lison (Lot 124), a Scolari / Blaeu map of Germania c. 1650 (Lot 130), a manuscript map of the "Great Eastern Road" in New England c. 1765 (Lot 135), and an excellent selection of early photographs of the American West and Native American Cultures (Lots 150-163).
