It is always sad to say good-bye to someone like Joyce Meskis of Tattered Cover Book Store, Denver. For over four decades, she developed a small independent book store into a vibrant cultural hub for students, teachers, writers, visitors, and the common reader: "Tattered Cover is an experience you can't download." Her credits in the book trade and her heroic activism as a Free Speech / First Amendment advocate (and plaintiff) defined her as a pioneering force of nature.
