Source Title No. 4. Check List of Chicago Ante-Fire Imprints 1851-1871
Description In 1871, Chicago was visited by one of the most devastating fires in American history. This imprints list attempts to identify all Chicago imprints from the twenty year period preceeding the great fire. Because Chicago was, before the fire, a robust, bustling center of the westward expansion, printing was well established. This volume identifies 1,880 Chicago imprints for this period. While this is a significant number, it most certainly under-reports the true total of Chicago imprints of this period. For the collector of material of this period and location this is an excellent starting point.
