Source Title
Description Heritage Auction Galleries ended the first decade of the 21st century as likely the fastest growing major auction house in the world, the largest specializing in collectibles, and perhaps third or fourth largest overall. Its sales had grown to over $700 million annually and it had almost half a million registered online bidders, the firm selling both online and in person.

Heritage was formed in Dallas, Texas, in 1976 by Steve Ivy, an expert in the field of coins. The firm was combined with a numismatic competitor operated by Jim Halperin in 1983. The two serve as co-chairmen.

Over the years, the firm has expanded its offerings far beyond coins, now encompassing virtually every type of collectible, rare books and other types of works on paper included. Heritage has been aggressive both in promoting its auctions and obtaining material to sell. The house now boasts of over 100 experts and 300 other employees. Long operating strictly out of Dallas, in 2010 Heritage is opening auctions in Beverly Hills and New York.
