Source Title Gorringes
Description

Gorringe's traces its history back to the 1920s. It was founded by Rowland Gorringe, who had previously been an estate agent. The firm got its break in 1928 when Edward Warren, an eccentric wealthy American, left his estate, Lewes House, to his secretary, Harry Asa Thomas. Thomas had Gorringe conduct the sale, which included works by Rodin and other valuable pieces of art. It was a huge sale and set up Gorringe as as a go-to man in Sussex, UK, for selling art and antiques.

Gorringe's is still located in Lewes, Sussex. Along with special estate sales, they conduct weekly auctions. They regularly include 800-900 lots, with books and related items being one of their specialties, along with other forms of art and antiques. In recent years, they added internet bidding, open to buyers all over the world, with more than half of their sales now made online.
