Source Title Auctions of books, prints and manuscripts
Description Burgersdijk & Niermans is a longstanding book specialist auction house located in Leiden, the Netherlands. Leiden, with its notable university and printing history, has long been a "city of books." Burgersdijk & Niermans was founded as an offshoot of the publishing house of Evert Jan Brill. Founders Pieter Johannes Burgersdijk and George David Niermans were former Brill employees who set up their auction house in 1894 when the Brill firm decided to discontinue their own auctions and dispose of their antiquarian stock. Burgersdijk & Niermans specializes in books, manuscripts and prints, runs two auctions per year, in May and November, and also operates a bookstore.
