Description Cowan's Auctions is based in the American Midwest in Cincinnati, Ohio. Despite its location far from the major urban centers of America, it has developed into one of the country's most important auction houses in the field of Americana. Its Americana auctions offer major collections of collectibles, political memorabilia, books, manuscripts, photographs. etc. The firm also offers much in the way of art, particularly Native American and folk arts, as well as firearms and other military items.

Cowan's was founded by C. Wesley Cowan in 1995. Cowan had gained much of his expertise serving as Curator of Archeology at the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History. Prior to that he taught archeology at Ohio State University. Mr. Cowan will be familiar to many as an appraiser on PBS' television series Antiques Roadshow.

Cowan's Auctions generates around $20 million is sales annually, attracting over 1,000 bidders from all over the world. It features a department dedicated to the sale of books, autographs, and manuscripts.
