Notice: As collectible paper auctions have swelled into a billion dollar a year category, hidden was the fact that dozens of categories have emerged as major components of Paper. What was once the Weekly Top 25 lots (by price), this past week we added Maps and Music. This week we’ve added more categories including: Manuscripts, Photography, Art and Arts, Graphics and Illustration, and The Sciences. There will be weeks that some categories won’t have much activity, if so they won’t appear. In the meantime, we have started to build 30 more Categories. This week’s report includes 11 Categories. As we become more familiar with this process we expect two effects.  It will encourage auction houses to add staff for Categories that are heavily trafficked.  For collectors, those Categories that reflect their interests, will become part of their collecting routine. In this way in time, their collections will prosper, becoming more intense, more liquid and valuable.
